Why is my Vedic sign different from my Western sign?
Western astrology uses the tropical zodiac (anchored to the seasons); Jyotish uses the sidereal zodiac (anchored to the stars). They currently differ by about 24 degrees — so most people move back one sign in the Vedic sky. Neither is wrong; they are two maps of the same territory.
What is a nakshatra?
One of 27 lunar mansions, each 13°20' wide — a finer grain than the 12 signs. Your Moon's nakshatra is considered one of the most personal points in the whole Vedic chart, with its own deity, symbol and power.
What is a Mahadasha?
A planetary chapter of your life — each planet rules a period of 6 to 20 years, in a fixed sequence that starts from your Moon's nakshatra at birth. The current chapter colors the themes of these years.
Which ayanamsa do you use?
